Bertha May and Granite Lakes — Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014

South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley
We drove from Ashford, south on Kernihan Rd, off onto FS 84 and then onto FS 8410. About a mile from the TH, there were several wash outs that had been filled in enough for us to drive over. About 0.2 miles from the TH was a big washout across the road. We just stopped there and walked up the road to the TH. The trail was very nice and huckleberries along the way were tasty. We hike to Bertha May lake and head lunch. Then we hiked to Granite lake before returning the way we came. A good hike for families or beginning hikers.
