Trip Report
Rampart Ridge - Rampart Lakes, Rachel Lake — Saturday, Jul. 26, 2014
Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Road to the trail head has a lot of potholes. My little Ford Fiesta made it up with no problem. You can pay for a permit at the TH. There was plenty of parking in the lower lot on Saturday morning.
Most of the hike is easy going with a waterfall, too. The last third of the hike up to Rachel Lake is where all the elevation comes in. After a short lunch break at Rachel Lake, we headed up to Rampart Lakes. Mosquitoes are pretty bad at both locations right now. Wear some protective clothing and/or bring bug spray! There were some small patches of snow up to Rampart Lakes, but nothing difficult.
Because this trail has so many boot paths there are sticks/rocks piled up and over the paths you should not take. You might find yourself at the edge of a cliff and have to backtrack if you don't pay attention. If you're heading to Ramparts from Rachel, keep your eyes open for the trail sign because it blends in with the tree :) You might be heading to Alta when you actually want to head to Rampart Lakes. That's what we did the first time on this hike (oops). Keep an eye out for it on the way down, too! This was my third time hiking here. Rampart Lakes is so peaceful.
