Trip Report
Hyas Lake, Tuck and Robin Lakes — Sunday, Jun. 29, 2014
Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
Hiked from Deception Pass trailhead to Hyas Lake for overnight and Tuck Lake the next day. The weather looked bad west of the mountains so we headed for Roslyn and Tuck lake. We got off to a lake start and left Seattle around 4pm. After a few minutes of debate and research about where to go a weather we settled on this hike. The hike began at the trailhead around 7pm and we quickly made our way 2 miles to Hyas Lake for an overnight. The trail to Hyas Lake is flat, broad, and beautiful. There are several stream crossings along this hike and many were very full today. We set off the next morning after a night at one of the many campsites near the lake. The way to the Deception Pass junction is picks up elevation more quickly and in 2 miles we met fork. There were several large stream crossings and deadfall to contend with, but we made good time. At the junction, snow covered the ground and there is little sign of a trail. We turned right, crossed the stream, and navigated through the snow & forest for 1/4 mile until we met the trail again. From here, the trail ia mostly snow free until 500 feet of the lake. The trail is very steep, rocky, and difficult. After 1 mile the views start and in another you are standing next to Tuck Lake. Just before the lake is a campsite with a dramatic view of Hyas Lake. We spent an hour by the lake and finally turned around and followed our tracks out and back.
*Road Conditions: As of 6/29/14, the road to the trailhead has a stream crossing that is about 1.5 feet deep 3 miles before the trailhead. The ford is smooth and partially paved underwater. High ground clearance is recommended. 4wd is preferred, however we saw minivans and Subaru's beyond the ford.
