Emerald Park, Domke Lake & Railroad Creek — Saturday, Jun. 7, 2014
Central Cascades > Entiat Mountains/Lake Chelan
Our WTA Volunteer Vacation hiked up to Domke Lake from Lucerne. The Domke Lake Trail is in good shape. The back half of the Domke Lake campground is closed due to hazard trees, but the half near the lake is still very lovely. Our crew cleared logs off the first three miles of the Emerald Park Trail. There are still logs above the three mile point, but all except two are small enough to step over very easily. This is an area where the 2007 Domke fire came through, and logs will continue to fall. We also cleared logs off Lower Railroad Creek trail to 1/2 mile past Burn Creek. An avalanche at Burn Creek is about 60' wide. We cleared a path through it, but as it melts, conditions will change. Also, there is damage to the tread above the creek, including one undercut where a tree fell pulling soil out from under the trail. Use caution in this area. Be aware that wind on these trails can cause burned trees to fall unexpectedly.
