Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich
Had a great time today! We didn't really hike the official trail today, just the road. The road up was pleasant with not too many potholes, and about 1.7 miles from the trail-head we hit snow and couldn't drive any further. We parked with the few other vehicles here. We decided to hike the road to the trail-head with an overlook of Coplay Lake (nearly all snow-covered today) and had a glimpse of Mt. Rainier when a few clouds broke. Some parts were clear of snow and others had 6 feet. My wife and I had gators (very glad we brought them). Coming back down we say a couple people with snowshoes. That would have been a great idea for going further. Overall, we had a great hike. We're looking to go back with either snow-shoes or wait until the snow clears from the trails and lakes.
