Mount Townsend — Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Cloudy summit (photo by Riri).
Ericka and I finally hooked up today for a hike but the bad news was the day started overcast; the good news was the temp for hiking was perfect for human and dog alike. No bugs either. The trail is in fantastic shape. Surprised to see lots of brilliant yellow, red, and violet balsam root, paintbrush, and hare bells at their peak. The clouds parted and the sun shone briefly, treating us to blue skies overhead and peek-a-boo views of the Olympics when we topped Townsend and surprisingly had the summit all to ourselves. Only 11 people were signed in at the trail register today.
Still some beauty to be found in the mist (photo by Riri).

Can't believe I was reduced to photos of ground squirrels! (photo by Riri).
