Trip Report
Tuck and Robin Lakes — Wednesday, Jul. 11, 2012
Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
As the last report said, the road is nearly impassable in anything other than a high clearance vehicle. It took us about an hour to go just the 10 miles or so from the Fish Lake turnoff to trailhead.
Trail is in wonderful shape, and the periodic stream crossings do well to break up the monotony of the flat terrain over the first 4 miles. On a hot day, dip your hat in each one and put it back on... Refreshing!
The trail sign to Tuck Lake comes not long after making a pretty hairy creek crossing (requiring some wet boots). I think I remember the sign being at about 4350'. Soon this area will be melted out, but we had a good time searching for the actual bootbeaten trail on the other side of the snow.
Once at Tuck, we attempted to make it up to Robin Lakes, but the steep snow kept us away, even with axes, so we were content to spend a little bit of time before the sun went down gazing out to Mount Daniel from our rocky perch before the sun set. The stars were amazing!
The next morning, a family of three mountain goats (two parents and a baby) kept us company while we made breakfast. I enjoyed watching the adults lock horns a few times. It's amazing the purchase those animals can get on the rocks!
Beware making the crossing over the outlet of Tuck Lake down to Tuck's pond... the logs move around like the great outdoors games. One of our party made a memorable splash while crossing!
The bugs are incessant near the lake - bring DEET or some netting!
