Chelan Lakeshore Trail — Saturday, Apr. 16, 2011
Central Cascades > Entiat Mountains/Lake Chelan
WTA set up a base camp at Moore Pt and worked the trails north, south and east. The Lake Shore trail north takes you to the amazing views from Hunts Bluff. The trail had blooming Balsam root, paintbrush, spring beauty, chocolate lilies' among others. The WTA crew cleared the trail up to the NRA Boundary, just short of Flick Creek shelter, clearing around 20 logs, and needed brushing across the trail and a bit of tread work. The crossing of Hunts Creek was a mess, and the crew made quick work of cleaning it up and making it passable. Heading south on Lake Shore trail takes you through a couple of Aspen groves, over a few minor creek crossings, forest both burnt and intact. The contrast of the black burnt snags and the lush green grasses is truly a sight to be seen. The trail is cleared to just short of Cascade Creek. We also headed up Fish Creek Trail, clearing it to a little past the junction with the Round Lake Trail. Turkey vultures, Osprey, American dippers, ducks, geese and hawks made their presence known. With wild onions and cilantro providing the smells, the wind and waterfalls the sounds and Lake Chelan the incredibly beautiful sights, the week went by real fast. This is a great time to walk the trail before it gets hot and dusty.
