We hiked this trail from the point where the plow stops on the icicle road and spent the first three miles hiking access road 7601 to the Eightmile Creek Trail. From the trailhead, we followed the road to the wilderness boundary (another mile) and camped in a great spot for the night. The next morning, hiked on to little Eightmile Lake (2 more miles) and then returned to strike camp and hike out.
The road was snow covered the whole way, but plowed to the an area where snowmobilers park. During the hike, the Denali shoes we were wearing did fine but we were stomping about 18 inches down. There was a good trail left over but we've left a fresh shoe track for the next hikers. All-in-all, we did about 12 miles of wonderful travel with great scenery. It would be great to see this path maintained to the lakes this winter. We HIGHLY recommend this trail!
