Trip Report

South Whidbey State Park — Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010

Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island
The "Ancient" Cedar

There was just one other car in the day use parking lot in the afternoon, and we encountered only two parties on the trail. Crossed the road and followed the Ridge Loop Trail through some old-growth forest and then along an old road. Where the trail met the Wilbert Trail we made a small detour to an old Cedar, as suggested in Craig Romano's "Day Hiking Central Cascades" book, and then turned around and followed that trail back to the start. The trail was easy, with a few blowdowns and some slightly muddy areas (the really boggy areas along the Wilbert Trail had wooden walkways).

Trail through old-growth forest
Trail along an old road
Trail through a bog

Hi Eric-
glad you liked the hike and it's in "Day Hiking Central Cascades" not Day Hike, which is a different book not covering Whidbey. Here's more on South Whidbey http://hikeoftheweek.com/South_Whidbey_State_Park.html a great quiet destination.

Thanks, that's indeed the book where I found this trail description. Updated the trip report.
