One lone car at Little Hump/Big Hump TH this morning; we met 3 guys & their fun dog, later in the day met a family of five enjoying the forest.
We noticed the TH register showed Backcountry Horsemen and a WTA crew had worked the previous day. From the evidence of huge fresh stumps and logs that had once blocked the trail in numerous places, they had worked their hearts out for all of us; thank you. I found a brand new, quality gortex glove near a stump before Little Hump, has to be belong to one in this group, be delighted to return to owner. (contact office)
Part of the enjoyment of this trail is that it seemed we could always hear the melody of the Duckabush River, from a few meandering streams and waterfalls to absolute torrents of water rushing by at very choice spot named '5 Mile Camp'. You'll find this area between Big Hump and the Park boundary, we turned around here, the guys told us they'd hiked as far as the boundary where they'd encountered snow across the trail. However with tiny buds and shoots here and there, spring has definitely arrived at Duckabush, one of the numerous great hikes in the Olympics.
