Skagit-Sauk Reach Trail — Wednesday, Sep. 30, 2026

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Skagit River

Have hiked this trail many times since its starts at my favorite camping area at Howard Miller Steelhead Park. Whether it's a tent or in an RV it's really nice being able to walk down to the river to fish. This park is one of the best maintained parks in Skagit County. The Skagit-Sauk Trail can be accessed right behind the Maintenance Building off to the right when you enter the park or down at the end of the RV Camping areas you will see a trail sign as well that will access trail in about a 1/2 mile or so. They maintain a trail system along the river and through the lowland areas which is kept cut so grass can grow. I hiked the first two miles which gives you the best and only views of the Skagit River after that it leaves the river's edge and goes straight through the forest where it finally hooks up with Sauk Store Road where you either get someone to pick you up or turnaround and hike back the way you came. The total trail out and back is about 4.7 miles in length. Checkout the video of this hike by clicking on the link below or checkout over 500 other hikes I have done on my Vimeo channel by clicking on the link below this trail video.

As always get out and see this beautiful state and enjoy your hiking.

Take care,

Mike
