Trip Report

Rainier View, Castle Mountain — Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Ridge walking below "Corral Pass Peak," Point 6333

I hiked from the Corral Pass trailhead out to "Corral Pass Peak" (6333), Rainier View and continued to Engineer Meadows on the old Castle Mountain Trail. The tread becomes a bit less defined a short distance beyond the Rainier View junction but is still relatively easy to follow amongst criss crossing game trails. I dropped down to the meadows, which were largely unburnt in the 2017 fire, and hiked up the slope on game trails to Castle Mountain which is a steep, cross-country scramble with some third-class climbing at the top.

Some elk hunters were in the parking area so be aware that hunting season is on and wear bright colors.
