Parked at 4:45, lot about half full. Had breakfast at trailhead before setting off at 5:30. Reached Summerland by 8, and Panhandle Gap just before 9, taking extra time to look at mountain goats.
There was shade just up the hill to the east of the gap, so we set up the stove there and had some coffee and hot chocolate and noodles, then went back down to the gap and up the trail to the west, getting up to the pointy bit of the ridge to appreciate the all-around views at about 7075 feet. The ground between the gap and this point is steep and a bit soft in places, but it's not very far and the extra views to the north and east are worth the trouble.
We left the gap at 10:15 and made it back to the car by 12:50 pm.
