The west fork Foss road is closed for construction through the 11th. So I decided to forgo the road walk and try a bit more ambitious hike up to Jade, Opal, and the Necklace Valley. The river crossing was only thigh deep for me and not moving fast. The trail is overgrown and there are some over and under logs on the climb.
Lots of parties out and PCT hikers on an alternate route through the La Bohn Lakes. The mileage seems to be longer than the listed 7 miles to Jade Lake. The lake was surprisingly cold once I jumped in. Lots of fish swimming and entertaining frogs throughout the high country past Necklace Cabin. I would have enjoyed the hike more as a backpack to get higher up towards Tank Lakes. The slide alder, vine maple, and blueberry bushes are starting to turn orange and red adding some color to the hike. Beautiful but challenging hike/run.
