Boulder River — Saturday, Sep. 5, 2026

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

Great hike on a somewhat questionable weather day! Had two days to trek and with a better forecast for Sunday, opted for the woods and moss and beautiful waterfalls on Saturday.

Road: There are a ton of potholes, but none that any car can't handle as long as you take it relatively slow.

Parking: We arrived around 11:30 on a holiday Saturday and there were still a few spots in the lot. When we came back four hours later, it was more full with a handful on the road.

The trail: GREAT! While the cascades a mile and a mile a half in are the destinations on the hike, I also found the final couple miles of tread gorgeous. If it were a tad warmer, I would've swam in one of the many appetizing pools. The moss was also so verdant. I can see why this would be a great choice for a trail year-round.
