Hiked from Longmire to Comet Falls, with spur hikes to Mildred Point and Van Trump Park, following the Wonderland trail to Van Trump Trail and back (we didn’t take the loop on Rampart Ridge).
The entry to the park was backed up with a. 30 minute wait when we arrived at 8:30 am (get there before 8 am) and signage said that Paradise lot was already full, but there was plenty of parking at Longmire. Given our route, we were blissfully alone most of the day, even when the park was crowded.
The mountain played hide and seek in the clouds, but wildflowers were abundant in Van Trump Park and the meadows below Mildred Point. We also found (and ate) lots of berries along the way. There are a few minor blowdowns on the trail to Mildred Point, but otherwise the trail was in excellent condition.
Total distance was just around 14 miles RT (including spurs) with 4500’ of gain. It was a challenging, but glorious day.
