While there were a few cars in the lot when I arrived at 8:45 am, there was no one else on the trail, as evidenced by the spiderwebs I ate 🤣. Maybe the cars were campers.

The trail is in great shape overall. There is one minor blowdown but it is easily stepped over, and the stream crossing were all easy on exposed rocks. Do bring bug spray though!

The trail is pleasant as it follows the creek, and upper granite lake is nice. Not dip-worthy, but nice. If you’re looking for an 8+mile hike with a moderate grade and some pleasant views, this one will do the trick.

I didn’t have time to go to Thompson Lake, but based on the grade shown on the map, it would make this much more of a workout.
