Cutthroat Pass via the Pacific Crest Trail — Friday, Jul. 10, 2026

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Looking southwest to Cutthroat Pass and Dome Peak

This is one of our favorite hikes in the area, as it gets far less use than the Maple Pass trail across the highway, the trail is typically in great shape, and the 360-degree views up top are nothing short of spectacular!  The new trailhead parking lot is a huge improvement (thanks USFS!), and trail is in great shape throughout, having been recently logged out and now with very minor residual snow.  Creek crossings are all very doable.  Wildflowers are likely at their peak throughout.  A great time to enjoy this gem!

Looking north from the saddle above Cutthroat Pass to Tower, Golden Horn, and Jack Peaks
Looking southeast to Liberty Bell and Silver Star

That last shot doesn't show Silverstar, it's to the left. Looks like Kangaroo ridge.
