Lake Serene — Tuesday, Jun. 16, 2026

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Lake Serene

Unexpected hike to Lake Serene today due to the cancelation at the trailhead of a WTA work party at nearby Barclay Lake.  Since I suddenly had a free day at 8:30 am and I was already in the area, I decided to hike to Lake Serene.  It has been several years since I've done this hike and it seemed like a great day to do it again.  Much cooler than the previous two days and being mid-week, not much in the way of crowds.   The lake is just as beautiful as I remembered and the trail rockier than I recalled.

Only about half a dozen cars in the lot when I arrived just before 9:00 am on a Tuesday morning.  Some potholes on the access road from Hwy 2, but it is a short distance to the TH.   There are a couple restroom facilities at the parking lot.  One was closed/out of service and the other, while open and functional, was in less than pristine condition.  It had TP, both on the roll, and unfortunately, also all over the floor.  Perhaps a trash can inside would alleviate that.  I'm guessing that people grab some tp to avoid touching the lid while closing it and then, lacking a can to throw it in, decide to throw it on the floor instead.

Overall, the trail is in good condition, though as noted it is quite rocky in places, and for extended distances with some big step ups and step downs.  It is also brushy in places, especially prior to the turn off to Bridal Veil Falls.  There are also a few lopsided/destroyed stair structures concentrated about 2.45 miles from the trailhead, but they are easy enough to work your way past.

This trail is a great workout to a beautiful destination!
