We went elk seeking this morning at Meadowbrook Farm, which I'd never been to before. We were hoping for something relatively flat since my partner currently has an injured knee.
We got to the interpretive center parking lot shortly before 9 on a Saturday, and there were only a few cars in the lot. There's a dumpster for trash and another for recycling there.
We did the first half of the Meadow Loop trail as described on the Meadowbrook Farm website, heading out on the gravel trail along Highway 202. The gravel trail was in great shape, though with some sounds of the 202 traffic.
When we got into the part past the trees heading into Camas Meadow, though, the trail turned to dirt, got very narrow and overgrown, and was pretty bumping (some real ankle-breakers in there). We eventually hit a spot about 0.4 mile after leaving the highway that was so waterlogged, we chose to turn around and make this an out-and-back hike. It was at least a few inches of water.
We ended up doing about 2 miles, and we did see a few elk in the distance! We didn't get close enough for any great pictures, though they were very fun to see. There were also a few lovely wildflowers out.
I'm a little disappointed we didn't get around to doing the full loop (by the time we made it back to the car, it was getting sunny and warm enough that I was ready to head home), but it was still a lovely outing, and I'm glad I've finally gotten to check out the farm 😊
