Road out to the trailhead is rougher than I remember it being last year. Pretty bumpy in sections, but any car can make it if you go slow.
The wildflowers have transitioned from early season trillium, fawn lily and chocolate lily seen here in April to tons of foam flower, Pacific ninebark and twinflower lower down, and self heal, Oregon sunshine, shinyleaf spirea, and a few tiger lilies up around Big Hump.
This is a nice trail for birding and we counted around 25 different species seen and heard today, including a Dipper on the river.

We must have seen you, were you the birders looking for the rare black crowned ?(throated)? sparrow?

We didn't hike with the big group of birders up there, but my husband and I did join them for the stake out at Big Hump for quite a while! Perhaps we saw you on our way down, though.

Yes we must have met as we were coming up. We were the 3 old ladies (pictured on my trip report). We also looked for a bird we didn't know after talking with the birders, but just saw the usual suspects
