Trip Report

Luther Burbank Park — Tuesday, May. 26, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands
Birders

We took the train to Luther Burbank Park today. The sun broke through and we warmed up quite a bit. We stopped off at the Community Center which has a very fine Quilt exhibit. From there we took the stairs down into the park. We headed first to the concrete ruins of the old cow barns and then to Calkins Point.

Heading back we saw and heard: Cedar Waxwing, bald eagle, juvenile eagle, Flicker and a Female Downy Woodpecker.

Tracing the path along the water back to the south, we passed the old Boiler Building, the docks and the Beach. We walked atop the Earth Sculpture and then headed to Mercer Island's downtown for a late lunch.

3.9 in total. Most of that was from wandering the downtown area searching for food. Then we took the magical train back to Redmond.
