Greenwater Trail to Lost Lakes, Noble Knob — Sunday, May. 24, 2026

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Greenwater Trail to Lost Lakes, Noble Knob by KingOfCups

I hiked from the northern Noble Knob trailhead down to Lost Lake and back today... cut off a bit more than I could chew and exacerbated my exercise induced asthma with the barn burner of an ascent from the lakes at the END of the hike, but it was beautiful none the less!!! I LOVED this lake and the little stream that feeds into it, I will be back!

Things of note: There is snow between the northern Noble Knob terminus and the turn off to Lost Lake. It's the most significant snow of this route; it's in patches but it's deep and some places were tricky to navigate. I got a heads up about it going in from a hiker who turned back - they said they were rehabbing a knee fracture and their reggae song told them to turn back hehehe... wish I would have told them I am also the kind of person who would turn back if my song told me that!!! also want to let them know I think that was a correct decision for someone rehabbing a knee... I navigated the snow pretty well, but I would NOT have wanted to navigate it while rehabbing. I fell once -into- the snow so it wasn't too bad, and slid down several other sections just a bit bc the drifts were up to 3 ft. it's melting out rapidly, but just fyi.

Multiple trees down, definitely some new ones since I hiked this last fall right before the seasonal closure. Plenty down both on the Noble Knob trail and on the Lost Lake trail... most significant one on the Lost lake trail is where the trail from the Greenwater TH gets up to the lake... pretty gnarly blow down just before the lake. There were 2 sets of people camping at the lake so it's navigable! Just be careful.

The road up is clear of snow, lots of potholes. A passenger car could make it, just be careful and watch for them. A couple trees halfway across the road too, but a way is cleared so it's navigable.

To y'all who were trying to find Hidden Lake and got turned around: I hope y'all made it there safely!

All in all, I hiked about 10 miles (just past Lost Lake to the next pond, and back), around 3,300 estimated elevation gain. I love this trail, I'll be back.

Did you turn off SR410 at FR 70 or 72? Doing some scouting around the other day. We found snow at 2 mi from the trailhead on 72 and the gate to the Northern trailhead off of 70 was closed.

72! perhaps I got the TH mixed up then, but I went up 72. It was snow free today. I was up there last week scouting and it was snow covered in the upper portion, but this week it was dry all the way to the TH.
