Clayton Beach — Wednesday, May. 20, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
Not all classrooms have 4 walls, sometimes it’s the beach!

A beautiful afternoon for a tidepool adventure. We parked in Larrabee State Park by the playground and walked over to hike the Madrona Trail over to the Clayton Beach Trail. All the trails are easy. The Madrona trail has a lovely rock staircase that is a gem. And the Clayton Beach Trail has so much work done it, it nice! Flowers in bloom here and there like starflower, thimbleberry, honeysuckle and foxglove.

with the tide out, we walked to the north. We saw multiple nudibranchs, sand dollars, clams, sea stars, sea cucumbers and anemones. The rocks are also really cool! So many cool designs that have been formed by the water. Some even look like waves. Easy to climb on, but watch for barnacles.
