My friend and I decided to check out Kaleetan Peak on a random Monday. The approach to Melakwa Lake was straightforward, with a couple of snowfields starting just before the lake. The steep climb up the ridge right after the lake was wet but not too muddy.
We started encountering about 6–12 inches of snow near the boulder field, which made progress up the hill pretty slow. We made it all the way to the final scramble below the summit, but decided not to go for the peak itself since it was still heavily covered in snow. It didn’t feel worth the risk, so we’re saving the true summit for another day.
