Beautiful late afternoon/ evening hike as I got up the the summits of Mount Baldy and Domerie Peak after not starting until 3:38pm. The super steep trail up to Para Point is super dry, and is very slippery on the descent. Easy to slip and fall. Hiking poles are helpful.
The trail from Para Point over to Mount Baldy has about a half dozen blowdowns. Once at Mount Baldy, I took the ridge down picking up a faint trail at times and went over to Domerie Peak. The initial descent is pretty steep at times with no so great footing as it drops down about 500 ft to a saddle and meadow before it climbs back up to just below Domerie Peak south side. Here I scrambled up mostly class 2(walk up) to the summit. The evening light afforded some really nice views. After a short summit stay I went down the ridge from Domerie Peak south side towards Easton Ridge to a rock outcrop and looked down for a possible route down and back up to Easton Ridge, but decided against it as it was getting late for any off trail shenanigans with the approaching nightfall, and headed back. The 500 ft ascent back up to Mount Baldy was tiring, but soon I was there, and then had long hike back to the car. Only stepped on on small patch of snow, which was just below Domerie Peak.Finished at 8:08 pm. Great evening! 9 miles with 4154 ft gain.
I added Thomas Mountain, as I was there on Saturday. There is quite a bit of lingering snow between Para Point and Thomas Mountain. It is consolidated, so we didn’t even put on gaiters or spikes, and did just fine.
