Near the Altair end of this trail, there's a stretch of rotten puncheon that's failing and has reached a state where it's unsafe to hike and not worth maintaining. So, rather than replace the puncheon, the Gray Wolf Trail Crew decided to reroute the trail for 250 feet, taking a more sensible route above the wet area.
Our crew spent the day clearing ferns and cutting tread, and got most of the job done. We'll be back on May 16 to finish.
The crew's fairy godmother, Bobbie Stoneman, hiked in from the Herrick Rd. trailhead with a delightful afternoon treat: her famous cinnamon rolls, along with a thermos of fresh coffee.
