The Maple Creek Park in Maple Falls off Highway 542 and Silver Lake Road was a surprise to me as I have driven by it many times. The trailhead is right in town and does not require any permit to park at this time. There are several trails that start here. The Maple Creek Loop Trail that is 1.2 miles and the Bay to Baker Trail that is 7.4 miles along this section. The Loop Trail is in good condition, but you will get a good workout as you climb to the top of the ridge. There is a pond up on the ridge and I found so ducks in this pond which was interesting as the canopy would not make it easy for them to land. You will get your heart racing, but it is well worth the short hike.
It does not matter if you choose to go left or right at the first sign because you will end up back at the same place. Remember to check out Maple Falls which is about 100 yards down off the Bay to Baker Trail. You will see a sign showing to go downhill to the falls. You can see the falls in my video below. The Bay to Baker Trial leads 7.4 miles to the town of Glacier but a bridge is washed out at 4.5 miles so most people turn around there. There is also some other work along this trail, but you are still able to go around it. This trail is worth checking out. This trail has future plans to extend from Bellingham Bay to Mount Baker Ski Resort which is 72 miles long but it will be decades before all the land is acquired or permission is given to create the trail in certain spots. Checkout my video of this hike by clicking on the link below or checkout my Vimeo Channel for over 450 hikes I have done through out Wahington State and beyond by clicking on the link below that.
As always get out and enjoy this beautiful state and enjoy your hiking!
Take Care,
Mike
