Trip Report

Lower Mad River Valley — Friday, May. 8, 2026

Central Cascades > Entiat Mountains/Lake Chelan
Prettiest Tweedy

We walked only a little over 3 miles RT. Most of the Tweedy's we saw were past their prime and looking tired, but many other flower varieties were seen. We saw clematis in 2 different areas which made us happy as in previous visits we hadn't seen any until 3 miles in and we knew we wouldn't get that far today! Larkspur, False Solomon's seal, alumroot, small-flowered pentstemon, yarrow, lambstongue ragwort, bitterbrush, chokecherry and Red ozier dogwood were also seen in addition to the flowers in the collage. The day was mostly cloudy with sunbreaks. One hiker and 2 pairs of motorcyclists were also seen.

Tweedy and small-flowered penstemon
Swallowtail Butterfly and Stonefly which is an aquatic insect and vital indicator of good water quality
Bluebell, pea flowers, clematis, Pussyears (Tolmie star-tulip), phacelia and fairy bells
