Puget Sound and Islands > San Juan Islands
Viewpoint

A beautiful and short hike.

Parking: There is room for 4 or so cars along W Valley Road and do be careful getting in and out of your vehicle as the road is narrow and people drive rapidly.

Trail: As this is an old service road, the trail is nice a wide, but with few switchbacks so it is rather steep. Wildflowers were blooming and it was mostly in the shade. I only saw one other hiker along the trail and a small group at the summit. The first viewpoint has a great sign pointing out the area landmarks and the view is almost as good as at the summit with a few rocks for sitting and taking in the view. The summit is a short walk away, though, and has lots of rocks for sitting and enjoying the scenery. I saw deer from the trail and many birds as well. I visited the cemetery on the way down and it was a sobering and short side trip.
