I know you didn't come to the WTA Trip Reports for a report on the paved, flat section of the Centennial Trail south of the Getchell trailhead but I wanted to provide an update on the new loop trail WTA has been working on for several weeks.
As of this afternoon, the new trail is about 75% covered with large rocks that form a base layer before several layers of smaller gravel go on top to cap it. Today our crew of youth and families, eight people in total, spent the morning hauling and spreading enough large rock to cover about 100 feet of new trail. We used a bucket line and one hardy volunteer with a wheelbarrow to move all the rock from the piles along the Centennial Trail to fill our new trail. We spent the afternoon taking measurements with a laser level and performing some advanced calculus (no joke) to determine the volume of two large areas that will need another order of large rock to fill. We finished our day around 3:00 with chips and sodas in the parking area.
The bugs are out now and were the most annoying in the morning. I didn't really notice them too much once we got moving with buckets of rock.
There are several more work parties scheduled here in the coming weeks and the construction of the new trail will run through the June. I suspect next few work parties will be focusing on adding a layer of large rocks to the rest of the trail and will then move to add more rock to areas that need to be raised to get to ADA standards.

I’ve done a few earlier work parities there and it’s amazing to see the progress. Looks great!
