Trip Report

Shangri La — Friday, Apr. 17, 2026

Issaquah Alps > Cougar Mountain
Klondike Swamp trail

Our group did a 10 mile loop from Red Town trailhead through the southern part of the park. Had a lovely lunch stop at the Clay Pit. Then, headed north to the Harvey Manning trailhead. And, completed the loop via Military Road and Red Town dam.

Million Dollar View is barricaded, starting yesterday (4/16/26) through 6/1/2026 - according to posted signs. The pergola and tables are gone - only construction equipment there, now. Our group arrived to Million Dollar view via the Shangri La entry and encountered barricade fencing at the top. Since the trail to the parking lot was visible from where we stood at the barrier, we bushwhacked to it and headed to the Harvey Manning parking lot ... only to encounter the barricade fencing at that location with no great way to go around it.  Fortunately, the King County construction crew was still there and opened the fencing to let us through. I suggested that a barricade be placed at the Shangri La entrance, but the KC crew said that location was not their instruction.
