Trip Report

Cascade Park Wenas Wildlife Area — Wednesday, Apr. 8, 2026

Central Washington > Yakima

There's a reason it's called Audubon Road. Birds, birds everywhere! Today was more about watching birds and hunting for flowers as my friend and I are both recovering from a back injury. This place is truly spectacular especially before the gate is opened on May 1. There is a small pull out before the gate that fits about 3 cars. With the river flowing thru it has created a sanctuary for all animals! The park like setting in the camp area is unique for this region. Only a few flowers were blooming but there is a huge variety to come.  For large portions we hiked along the stream following well established elk trails. At the camp area we followed Dry Creek for about a mile to a perfect lunch spot. There are so many old road beds to follow and explore. The bathrooms at the camps were unlocked . Hauled out some cans and garbage but not bad! Found 3 elk skeletons so definitely used by hunters in the fall. We will definitely go back for more exploration.
