Point Defiance Park — Thursday, Apr. 2, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Point Defiance Park by Oldwhiner

There's a large owl swooping at hikers. We met several hikers who told us they had a close encounter. The owl is on the blue loop east of the end of Point Defiance and east of the Mountaineers tree. If you know the trail that goes from the blue loop down to the beach, the owl is perched in a younger tree about 30 feet east of the trail intersection, towards Vashon Overlook. The trail is in great shape. There's several very muddy spots on the blue loop. Down trees and low hanging shrubs from the snow storm damage has all been cleared. No more dodging branches or navigating down trees.

Forgot to say we decided to walk the road to avoid bothering the owl. This picture is taken from 5 mile drive. We could easily see her. She appeared not be bothered by us at this distance from the tree.

Just FYI when you're logged in there's a button at the upper right that allows you to go back and edit your trip report.
