I've never hiked this trail, so since I had the time I decided to get on it. The parking lot is right next to the Mountain Loop Highway south of Darrington. The road is paved in this location.
The trailhead had parking for lots of cars (and even buses) and picnic tables. I walked a short distance to the trail description signs, and decided to hike the loop in a clockwise direction, as recommended by the trail description poster.
The trail starts out on an old logging railroad grade for awhile, and then veers right and heads into the forest. The loop has very gentle grades, since it is designed for wheelchairs. As I hiked the loop I encountered two locations with a single 10 inch diameter log lying across the trail. Easy for me to step over.
Since I had the time and the tools, the two logs are now relocated off the trail. There is one footbridge on this trail that had an approximate 4 inch step from the trail up to the bridge. So if a wheelchair is involved, you should consider whether that step is negotiable. It probably depends on the design of the wheelchair and whether one is rolling solo or with helpful people.
