Capitol State Forest - Sherman Creek Loop — Friday, Mar. 27, 2026

Olympic Peninsula > Olympia
Into the woods!

Sherman Valley entrance into Capital Forest is in good condition, minor potholes. Arrived at Fall Creek a little after 9:00 and we were the only car in the lot. Vault toilet was clean and well stocked with TP!
The trail starts south of the toilets and meanders along Sherman Creek. Follow the signs for Lost Valley trail. Everything was still coated with frost but it warmed up fast. Entire trail was in great condition although muddy in a few spots; we stopped for a snack at 10:30 and then had lunch at the intersection with the McKenney and Mima trails. It was 2 miles back to the car enjoying views of Capital Peak along the way; finished at 1:20. Six trucks with mountain bikers had just arrived at the trailhead. Beautiful day; 8.6 miles.
