Hiked to Rachel Lake trailhead from Kachess Snopark. Snow covered almost the whole way. Compacted by snowmobiles to waterfall after that I broke trail the remaining 2 miles. 2 downed trees just before the trailhead that are easy to get around but will need to be cleared before vehicles can make it. Lots of views of High box and Alta peak. Really nice winter trail and saw no one all day for an area that is mobbed in the summer months. Several spur roads that invite exploration. Lunched on the big Rock outcropping at the waterfall. So many animal prints crossing the road the whole length of the trail. Mostly rodentia family but some fox or small coyote and deer. Someone spread 100+ fake rose petals at the lake lookout on the curve of the road just before the private homes about 1 mile from snopark parking. I gathered at least 25 but if your out that way grab some more please! They look very fresh so I assume recently spread ...why I can't begin to fathom!
