What a wet day, a quintessential Western Washington woodsy hike.

The road has some potholes but it’s not too bad. Parking lot is paved and the restrooms are open.

We hiked clockwise from the Samish Overlook, visited “the dome,” continued to Lily and Lizard Lakes, and returned via Max’s Shortcut and the Acorn trail.

A few trees across the trail are easy to step over. The creeks were high and required care and planning to cross with dry feet. Even my waterproof boots overflowed in a slight mis-step.
The trail itself was muddy and became a stream in places.
The areas around the lakes were flooded but the campsites are high enough above the water.
