Trip Report

Waptus Lake via Waptus River, Cooper River Snowshoe — Thursday, Mar. 19, 2026

Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
Blocked trail

Huge tree blocking Waptus River Trail just after the junction with the Pollalie Ridge Trail. Water flowing over trail also but that's passable. (pic 1) Another large tree before the junction but that one is managable. Cooper River trail starts as a stream but you can get around it.

Headed east to avoid the rain which was still there just not as intense as the pass. I have never done the Salmon la Sac snowpark. Be a great area for kids. I enjoy the snow bound campgrounds that I could never camp in with so many sites but they are located on some beautiful landscapes. I stayed right at every junction and made a counter clockwise loop of the whole campground. I popped down to the river several times at different campgrounds plus the shelter is outstanding! Supplied with dry wood and newspaper for a cozy fire in the fireplace. Water was absolutely raging and little creeklets and melt ponds are numerous!

Easy walk to Salmon la Sac trailhead used spikes but switched to snowshoes at trailhead. Saw absolutely no one all day. Definitely will be back!

Cooper River
1st large downed tree
