My hiking group went to Maury Island Marine park today. We took the 9:30 Fauntleroy ferry and arrived at the TH at 10:15 and 1 car was in the lot. It was 53 degrees with overcast skies. There are no facilities here so plan to wait for a Porta Pottie 1/2 mile south on the bluff or down at the beach. We took the bluff trail SW to check out a new spur trail that stopped at 75th Ave SW. We backed tracked to the Viewpoint on the bluff and took paths down to the Marine camping area and beach access. There was a lot of tree debris on most of our route, especially Madrona trees and large branches. Trail traffic was practically none existent, we saw 2 groups out with their dogs and 1 other group. Lots of spring flowers emerging - currant, saxifrage, Osoberry, rapeseed were especially colorful. Bird sightings included robins, song sparrows, juncos, blue jays, seagulls, Mergansers and wrens. The tide was out at the beach so we poked around for a while. We made a loop by following the road back up to the trailhead lot. To top off the day we stopped at Point Robinson trailhead to get a selfie with Oscar the troll. Another fantastic day out in nature with friends.
