Trip Report

Mount Si - Old Trail — Sunday, Mar. 15, 2026

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

Turned out to be a nice day and was a fun trip with a group of Mountaineers as we took the Old Trail up to just above the overlook bench that is just below the haystack. The bench is covered with 2-3ft of snow, so we stopped here at a nicely packed down snow area with a great view of the valley. We didn't feel like postholing down to the bench.

When we started at around 10:20am the trail was slushy snow with bare spots up to where the trail continues on to Little Si. Once we got on the Old Trail/ Boulder Garden Loop Trail the trail was like a small stream with the snow melt, before becoming a nice consolidated bootpath, which lasted all the way up to the top. Beware of stepping off this track though, as you will do some post holing. This happened a few times getting off the path to let others pass. Micro spikes were helpful  on the packed down path, although some in our group took them off as the snow was balling up on their spikes. There were quite a few limbs drooping down across the trail from the weight of the snow, and a couple of large trees down across the trail, with the largest being at around 1930ft, just before the old road section. Great conditions today, although beware of some snow bombs coming off the trees from the melting snow.

Did you find this trip report helpful?

I also met a mountaineers hiking group around 1:10pm near 1800ft. Is that your group? I remember there were about 10 hikers.

We started around 10:40am and were near the top at 1:10pm. We had a group of seven, however we ran into a OSAT group of about 10 heading down as we were heading up. It may have been their group that you ran into. It was like a traffic jam when we passed each other, especially with the narrow boot path

Oh I did met another large group around 3000ft. It was a busy day for the old trail definitely. I counted over 35 people altogether. Always enjoy reading your reports~
