Trip Report

Sunset Pond Park — Sunday, Mar. 15, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area

Just here to say that this new loop is open for business. It's a nice little 1-mile loop, with some great bridge sections. My wife and I enjoyed checking it out. Several spaces for parking (and two for electric cars), it's easy to spot right off of James St. behind the Sunset madness.

Trail is in great condition, flat and family-friendly the whole way. We saw a few other people on the loop, as well as a loose dog (it had tags and was very friendly, and soon ran off, hopefully to its home). There are signs of some unofficial spur trails and nearby encampments, but that is to be expected of an urban trail.

After the loop, we also continued west for a  half-mile on the trail that connects to Cornwall Park.

A great trail that I know is needed in this area, I look forward to coming back to it. Here's an interesting article if you want to know more about the hard work put in to make it happen:

Grateful to be out today!
