Artist Point Snowshoe — Sunday, Mar. 8, 2026

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
Artist Point Snowshoe by Goforkayla

Road was 100% snow-free. Parking in the backcountry lot was very easy, even with a noon arrival on a Sunday. Granted, the forecast called for rain/snow mix - not very appealing - but we ended up with blue skies, zero precipitation, and just occasional strong gusts of wind.

Snow was extremely wet and heavy, with an icy crust where sun had not warmed it. I considered swapping to microspikes on multiple occasions, but deemed the conditions not quite favorable for them, so snowshoes the whole time. There were multiple trails to choose from, depending on if you favor switchbacks or steep shortcuts, and as a first timer I had to check maps multiple times, but found it overall easy to navigate. Visible runnels and rollerballs in some spots.

Many dogs on trail and all well behaved 🐾

Nooksack Falls was indeed a very short and nice stop on the way back.
