Beautiful day over in the Yakima area for a hike, as it was 60+ degrees and sunny out. The trail up to Cowiche Mountain is in great shape as it has dried out, so there is no mud. A few flowers are blooming, but they are in small groups, and not the whole hillside. Good hike up to the summit. There are no trees, so it was all sun. It was actually nice to have the 15+mph wind to cool me off. It was nice to be in shorts hiking! Lots of views of the surrounding area the whole hike. No views of the cascade peaks, but I did catch a glimpse of the top of Rainier and Adams on the drive in. The hike to the summit was 7.8 miles RT with 1240 ft gain
After this hike I drove over to Harlan Landing, which is near the intersection of I-82 and Hwy 12 and hiked up to Peak 1767(CalTopo Point 1763). From the park, I walked along the paved path and across the foot/bike bridge across the Yakima bridge that runs alongside I-82. Just after the bridge I followed a trail that took me under the railroad tracks where the tracks cross the Naches River. This trail switchbacks up the hillside with some nice views looking down to both rivers and the city of Yakima. I went all the way up to the summit where there are some cell towers. Nice short hike on the way back home. 3 miles RT with 700ft gain. The track for this hike is on the caltopo link below
