A day for the birds.
I had not seen any large flocks of snow geese this winter, only fifty or so at a time, and then there they were by the hundreds along the Bayview-Edison Road. I was alerted by something interesting before I saw them by the sight of a lone photographer on the side of the road. After about fifteen minutes of grazing there they suddenly took off. I have never known why they take flight as there was nothing that seems to startle them. They went about two hundred yards and settled again. This was south of the East-90 area where I also stopped but there wasn't much going on there except for an osprey hunting.
A little farther north there were bald eagles all over in trees, in flight, and in the fields. Some in flight were diving on each other fighting. There was a group of eagles both adult and immature along with ravens mixing together working something over-maybe a carcass. All along the way toward Edison there were herons.
I stopped in Edison for coffee and a pastry. It was a lively town on a beautiful day.
