First time exploring this lovely little network of trails! On a short 2 mile loop through some of the trails on the south end of Putney Woods, we spotted one early sign of spring in the form of nettles along the Jane Eyre trail, but otherwise it still felt like winter despite the sunny morning. With all the salal and evergreen huckleberry lining the trail, there was still plenty of green though! We also had the delight of watching a hairy woodpecker spiraling its way up a tree in search of breakfast.
While we passed a few hikers out with their dogs, we didn't run into any equestrians or bikers in this mixed use park. Trailhead parking was plentiful, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a clean and well stocked porta-potty in the parking lot. All around, if you're looking for a chill meander through the woods, this is a lovely trail system, and one I'll want to visit again the next time I find myself on Whidbey Island!
