I went to Phillips Creek trailhead to scout for some upcoming trailwork days, and discovered the grass widows are already in bloom close to the trailhead! They are gorgeous but they are also up and blooming far too early. I'm not ready to say goodbye to winter yet!
But when we do have to say goodbye to winter, this will be one of the early project locations. There are a lot of drainage features to repair, plus a lot of brush work. The area that was impacted by the fire a couple of summers ago is recovering nicely, but the trail is still looking a little rough in a few spots.
In terms of facilities at this trailhead: Spokane County Parks utilizes a porta-potty service for trailhead bathrooms, maintained weekly. The parking area is paved and has a trailhead camera so it's even possible to check conditions/parking access from home before heading to the trailhead. There's also garbage service, for which I was very thankful as I played "poop fairy" to 3 dog poop bags collected next to the trail on this hike. Fortunately I always come prepared to pack out Jasper's poop, but I find it very frustrating when I additionally end up packing out poop bags for irresponsible pet owners.
