Big Creek — Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Dick's rock, now out in the open!

Sunny Sunday - so no surprise that the lot was overflowing and then some on our return about 12:30.

We'd not been up here since the fire last summer, the preventative mitigation to many sections of the trail make it a different place!  And poor Dick's rock out in the open rather than nestled in the brush! Further up the trail the peek-a-boo views of Washington are improved by the removal of ladder fuels as part of last summer's fire mitigation work.

But lots of people, friendly dogs mostly on leash, trail in fine condition, noticed 2 (3?) new benches that weren't there last time we came about 3 or 4 years ago.

A lot of folks don't realize that if they make a sharp left just beyond the confluence (the Mt Ellinor connector trail) and watch for a little overlook sign on the left about 1/2-3/4 mile further ... they'll go up to the overlook where you can look out to the south over lake cushman.
