Humpback is pretty doable right now with the low snow coverage. Things to know:
- Tinkham Rd may technically be "closed" for the season, but there's no snow whatsoever. Just the usual potholes 😇. Plenty of cars on the road and a few at the trailhead.
- FS 5510 only starts to get a little bit of snow coverage after the trestle, but with the exception of one or two icy patches (and a highish mound of compact snow on the median), it's mostly driveable to the trail head. High clearance or AWD always a plus.
- Road walk plus first half of the uphill are mostly snow free. Things get patchy in the third quarter and finally more consistent snow for the final push. There is some boulder hopping at times, so always a judgement call on if/when to use traction, but I did use micro spikes plus poles at the top.
While we'll probably pay for our low snow coverage this summer, it does make for some accessible winter hiking.
